Workshops

The ‘Bag of Tricks’ workshops use objects and quotes taken from stories told during oral history interviews.

For some workshop participants the props enable them to view issues and questions about mental ill-health and wellbeing in ways they may not have previously considered. For others, the props allow space to talk more freely about experiences they have had by discussing similar issues encountered by another person.

Key themes and perspectives of the workshops include;

  • Putting those with lived experience as people first.
  • The ‘ordinariness’ of mental ill-health.
  • The power stories of lived experience have to address issues of stigma and to encourage empathy.
  • Giving ‘voice’ to marginalised individuals and communities.
  • Break down the barriers between those individuals and the ‘real world’.
