‘Bag of Tricks’
The ‘Bag of Tricks’ enables organisations and groups to discuss issues relating to mental health and well-being. How each organisation uses the kit will depend on their strategic priorities and any specific needs they have identified.
Groups who have used the resources include:
-
Mental Health service-users and those with lived experience of mental ill-health
-
Health care professionals and practitioners
-
Teachers, school children and young adults
-
Heritage professionals and volunteers
-
University Staff and Students
Background to the Resources
Using the New Vic's pioneering Cultural Animation techniques, the kit uses objects and patient stories taken from a historical research project undertaken at the University of Huddersfield in partnership with St Anne’s Community Services. The themes arising from this research include:
-
Giving ‘voice’ to marginalised individuals and communities.
-
Putting those with lived experience of mental ill-health at the heart of the research and the issues arising from it as people first.
-
Demonstrating the ‘ordinariness’ of mental ill-health.
-
Helping to address issues of stigma and encourage empathy.
